"What You Must Know About
Brian Deacon And How He Became
The 'Contractor's Secret Weapon'!"
I grew up in a small farming town just outside of Greeley, Colorado. My father was a General Contractor and he owned a mid-sized company that employed 10 – 20 construction professionals. I got hands on experience starting as a youngster and learned a number of different trades as I worked in his crew after school, weekends and summers. I learned everything from framing to finish carpentry. Not only did I learn the technical side to the construction trade, I also got hands on experience managing the projects, crew and even doing the record keeping.

Later I received a college scholarship and I studied and obtained degrees in Marketing and Computer Science.  I even got accepted into a graduate program at Harvard University, obtained a MBA and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Eventually, I went to work for a small (at the time) software company in Redmond, Washington.  You might have heard of it … Microsoft Corporation.

At the time I was a wiz programmer but my passion for marketing kept coming out.  I took a job working for Bill Gates in marketing.  I was sometimes called the marketing genius because I could figure out how to get companies to purchase our products year-after-year.

If Bill Gates can trust me for umpteen years, rest
assured you have nothing to worry about!

I would work side-by-side with Bill and I would create marketing strategies for hard to sell products.  I would sometimes wake up in the early morning hours and I would call him on his cell phone and immediately we would start brainstorming about a unique idea or concept.

After over 11 years of working at Microsoft I got tired of the constant travel and the 24 hour demands of being in the high-tech industry.  I had always had this burning desire to return back to the construction industry and either work for my father or start my own remodeling company.

I started buying old dilapidated homes in Seattle and I got my GC’s license and started a Remodeling Company.  I was very good at what I did and my company won a few awards; so, I guess all those years of working side-by-side with my father finally paid off.
But, my biggest stumbling block in starting my own construction company was learning a very PAINFUL lesson that being GOOD, is irrelevant unless you can get a steady stream of pre-qualified prospects to consistently call you and WANT your services.

I set some serious goals for my company and tapped into my extensive marketing education and background to reach my goals.  I created an exhaustive marketing and business plan and within a short period of time I had 3 project managers and 2 crews and in just a little over 18 months I made over $1,400,000 in profit.

I began developing and writing my own ads, sales letters and postcards … experiencing extraordinary success. As you can imagine, I was hooked on marketing my construction business.  So hooked, that I studied ALL of the great marketing experts and became obsessed with cultivating the ability to create marketing materials that would compel people to call and do work with me. And that obsession has paid off handsomely.

Today, I am the President of Profitable Marketing and I own a large Contractor Referral Company.  My marketing company provides proven marketing information and coaching to Construction Professionals all over the USA and Canada.  And with a great partnership with the Association of Responsible Contractors & Construction Professionals, together we provide a monthly newsletter, coaching, consulting, public speaking, and seminars … helping contractors realize success greater than they thought possible.
